    Kindred Café with Dr. Wes Ely 

    Dr. E. Wesley Ely, MD, MPH, is an internist, pulmonologist, and critical care physician. Dr. Ely earned his medical degree (MD) at Tulane University School of Medicine, in conjunction with a Master’s in Public Health. He serves as the Grant W. Liddle endowed chair in medicine and is a physician-scientist and tenured Professor at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He's also the Associate Director of aging research for the Tennessee Valley Veteran’s Affairs Geriatric Research Education Clinical Center (GRECC) in Nashville, Tennessee. He's the founder and co-director of the Critical Illness, Brain Dysfunction, and Survivorship (CIBS) Center, and a pioneer in the investigation of delirium and long-term cognitive outcomes, including dementia, in survivors of critical illness. Dr. Ely is the author of Every Deep-Drawn Breath, from which he’s donating 100% of net proceeds to help COVID survivors and family members rebuild their lives.

    Hugo Health Kindred Ktalks are new events to promote deeper conversation around topics of particular interest. The first Ktalk will be an interactive discussion to learn about electronic health data privacy from expert and privacy attorney, James Ward. Jay will lead a discussion around such topics as how United States laws support and encourage patient access to health data, how we as citizens should know our rights, and how Hugo Health is making this possible. There will be plenty of time for Q&A.

      January’s Kindred Cafe features Dr. David Patrino, physical therapist, Phd. He's currently the Director of Rehabilitation Innovation for the Mount Sinai Health System, and an Associate Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He works to develop innovative technology solutions for individuals in need of better healthcare accessibility.

      The Immunology of Long COVID

      Dr. Akiko Iwasaki will be presenting her research on long COVID to those who are interested in a more scientific session than the LISTEN town halls or Kindred Cafés. Dr. Iwasaki will present the latest results from long COVID immune phenotyping analyses, and present hypotheses around the disease pathogenesis of vaccine-related long-haul disease.

      This is the first of many town hall meetings for LISTEN study participants. It’s an opportunity to hear directly from Drs. Iwasaki and Krumholz, and most importantly, for them to hear from you. We expect an active Q&A session with lots of time for interaction between LISTEN researchers and participants.
