On Sunday, The Washington Post published an article discussing the importance of patient-centered research and how people with long COVID are “advancing a revolution” in healthcare by partnering with experts in the research process.
The article spotlights Kindred, community member Liza Fisher, and co-founder Dr. Harlan Krumholz.
Liza, who started experiencing tremors in 2020 after being hospitalized with COVID-19, addresses the challenges she has faced in her search for treatment and how it led her to join “an increasingly vocal group of citizen scientists in their bid for research targeted at treating long covid.” Watch the story that she shared with Kindred here.
In the article, Dr. Krumholz dives into why many people with long COVID haven’t been able to receive care for their symptoms. He tells the Washington Post, “There were no specialists...the people who had the wisdom [about long covid] were the people experiencing it.” He continues to explain how the emergence of citizen scientists within the long COVID community has “opened a lot of people’s eyes to a different way of doing research.”
This is why your partnership in the upcoming LISTEN study is so important. It will be available in Kindred soon.
